My Week in Books!

Hello again!! Is it me or are weeks flying by quicker than ever?!  Been a great week on the reading front so without further ado, here’s what has been invading my brain this week!!  And there has been a lot of Christmas reading going on this week so feel free to listen to some christmas tunes while you read this blog!

THE PERPLEXING THEFT OF THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN by VASEEM KHAN

For centuries the Koh-i-Noor diamond has set man against man and king against king.

Now part of the British Crown Jewels, the priceless gem is a prize that many have killed to possess.

So when the Crown Jewels go on display in Mumbai, security is everyone’s principal concern. And yet, on the very day Inspector Chopra visits the exhibition, the diamond is stolen from under his nose.

The heist was daring and seemingly impossible. The hunt is on for the culprits. But it soon becomes clear that only one man – and his elephant – can possibly crack this case…

Adored the first in the Baby Ganash agency series – The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra – so was so pleased to read the follow up adventures of the now retired Inspector and his adorable elephant Ganesha!  Another fascinating mystery for them to solve in their own special way, alongside a story that is often a little darker than the first book commenting on the murkier side of life in India.  Loved it and hoping there’ll be more mysteries for them to solve in the future!!

CHRISTMAS UNDER A STARLIT SKY by HOLLY MARTIN

Neve Whitaker loves managing the Stardust Lake hotel. She gets to work alongside her wonderful family and she’s spending Christmas on the most enchanting, snow-covered island in Scotland. So why is her heart so heavy this festive season?

It might have something to do with the gorgeous actor Oakley Rey, the man she finished with before he left for California and the man she loves more than anything. With Oakley’s career in Hollywood soaring, Neve is convinced she’d only hold him back. She had to end it with him – at least that’s what she keeps telling herself.

But now she has a secret she’s struggling to keep, and when Oakley arrives on Juniper Island determined to win her back, Neve is thrown off balance. Will Neve’s fear of having her heart broken again push Oakley away for good, or is it time for her to take a leap of faith?

These were both such a treat to read! Have always loved Holly Martin and her style of writing, and she seems to just capture the wonderful settings, and perfect cast of characters again so well in these christmas tales!  Perfect to read at any time of year, but even better with Xmas approaching, as you will fall in love with Juniper Island and the inhabitants – the love dust seems to be hidden in the snow up there!!

THE CHRISTMAS CAKE CAFE by SUE WATSON

Heart-warming and hilarious, a story that will make you laugh, cry and bring a smile to your face.  Get ready for another deliciously amazing Christmas treat from Sue Watson….

As the Prosecco chills and Bing Crosby croons, Jen Barker just knows that her long-term boyfriend is about to propose.  But instead of a diamond ring nestled in her champagne flute, Jen finds cold flat rejection.  Her once perfect life and dreams of a husband and family seem even further from reach.

A working holiday to the Swiss Alps with her younger sister Jody might not be the Christmas Jen had it mind, but it offers her the chance to recharge her batteries and recover from heartbreak.

When Jen meets handsome ski instructor Jon Zutter her hopes for a happy-ever-after seem within her grasp again. Jon is kind and gorgeous and as they bond over Sachetorte at the picturesque Cake Café, Jen thinks he might just be her perfect man. But a relationship with him comes with a catch – and there are some things even cake can’t fix.

As the snow falls and Christmas approaches, could this be the place that restores Jen Barker’s faith in love?

This was another lovely, easy and fun read set around Christmas – and cake!! I can see a trend emerging in my reading material!!  Jen is a really likeable character who is looking to find the real her after being stuck in a relationship for so long, and it seems that going to the ski slopes of Switzerland may make her dreams come true in more ways than one!

THE VELVET CLOAK OF MIDNIGHT by CHRISTINA COURTENAY

“As the velvet cloak of moonlight settled over the ruined towers of Raglan Castle, the shadows beneath them stirred …”
When newly widowed Tess visits Raglan Castle, she experiences an extraordinary vision that transports her to seventeenth-century Wales and a castle on the brink of a siege.

Even when Tess leaves Raglan to return to Merrick Court, her late husband’s home, the strange dreams continue as her life becomes increasingly intertwined with the past. And when the new owner of the estate arrives – New Zealander Josh Owens – the parallels become even more obvious.

But perhaps the visions aren’t just trying to tell their own story, maybe they’re also giving a warning …

Was a big fan of the first in this series – The Cosy Teashop In The Castle  – so delighted we get to return and see how Joe and Ellie are coping with life at Claverham Castle and the teashop, and also find out how married life is treating them!  Such a wonderful read with many funny moments  related to their wedding business that is now up and running, along with the heartbreak of trying to add to their wonderful family.

As you can imagine with all that reading going on this week, the housework and the rest of life has been put on hold – book reading is always more important than stuff like that eh!! – so now to play catch up and then try and decide what to put on the reading list for next week!  Have any of you got anything good on your TBR piles right now that I may need to know about?! Always happy to receive recommendations of new books – and old! – that I can enjoy!  And that I can use as more excuses for ignoring reality!!!

HAPPY READING!!!
