MY REVIEW

This is Book 2 in the Tempest Sisters series, BUT can be easily read as a standalone, although I can highly recommend Book 1 – Summer At Carrick Park if you’d like to read that first! And in Taigh Fallon we follow the story of Angel Tempest who is a jewellery maker in Whitby, and who loves all things gothic! She is no shrinking violet in her choice of clothes or sharing her opinion and she does a lot of that in this book!

When her best friend Zac learns that he has inherited his the mansion in the Scottish Highlands that used to belong to his Great Aunt, he needs a friend to go with him and who better than Angel! She immediately falls in love with the history and setting of the house, and feels a real connection to the place – more so than Zac! Taigh Fallon has also been left to his Canadian cousin, Kyle, who used to bully Zac when they’d both be in Scotland visiting, but times have moved on and they’re both different people now so it’s interesting to see how that dynamic works – Zac seems much more forgiving than Angel who had heard from Zac about how he’d been treated in the past!

While they are all there a few strange sights and sounds begin to fill the halls and Angel is both fascinated and a little freaked about the feelings she has. It’s as if Taigh Fallon is trying to share the past with her and I loved the atmospheric setting and flashes back.

The storyline set in 1897 featuring Annis was a fascinating mix and added so much with an intriguing romance and seances and the link to the family history is always a favourite part  of mine in any story.

I loved the whole feeling of this book!  The friendship between Zac and Angel was really touching and her passion in sticking up for her friend against Kyle was admirable, if a little over the top at times! She’s not one who quickly forgives and forgets!! I absolutely raced through this book and really hope there’ll be more in this series as I love the time-slip elements!!

Highly recommended!!

#BookReview A Christmas Secret by Kirsty Ferry #PublicationDay

About the book

A heartwarming fun read from Kirsty Ferry, perfect for cat lovers and fans of Kathryn Freeman, Lindsey Kelk and Jill Mansell.

What if a secret from Christmas past was stopping you from moving on to Christmas future?

When Hugo McCreadie steps into Isla Brodie’s pet portrait studio to get a ‘Festive Furball Photo Shoot’ for his sister’s cat Schubert, he does question his sanity. But he knows the photographs will be the perfect Christmas present for his eccentric sister, Nessa – and he finds himself quite taken with ditzy, animal-loving Isla Brodie, too.

Will a Christmas secret from long ago prevent Hugo and Isla’s new friendship from going any further? Or will a certain big, black cat taking matters into his own paws lead them not only on a mad winter dash through snowy Edinburgh –but into each other’s arms for Christmas as well?

Linked to Every Witch Way but can be read as a standalone novella.

MY REVIEW

If you are looking for  a purr-fectly (!) fun and festive read this Christmas, then look no further and hopefully you’ll enjoy it just as much as I did!!  And prepare to meet a cat like no other in Schubert!!  There’s nothing normal about him and it seems fitting that a cat photo shoot brings his cat-sitter – Hugo – into the Pet Portrait studio run by Isla.  Hugo knows how much his sister dotes on the lovely Schubert, so what better present than a kitty photo shoot!

There is instant attraction between Hugo and Isla, so no surprise when they start to spend more time together.  Someone from Isla’s past doesn’t seem to approve of her new friend though, and there may be more to Hugo than meets the eye, which did add a deliciously darker twist to the story.

But the star of the  show is Schubert and his antics are destined to keep you amused and wondering just what he will get up to next!  It seems he might have a career ahead of him as a matchmaker – who needs Tinder when you have a cat looking out for your lovelife!!

Thoroughly enjoyed A Christmas Secret and hope there’ll be more from Schubert in the future!

MY REVIEW

I do love the Hartsford Mysteries series and this is the latest addition and I just want more!! Hartsford Hall has become a favourite place of mine through this series and it was just so wonderful to be able to go back and visit some old favourite characters, alongside some new introductions!

Emmy Berry finds herself at Hartsford Hall for a craft fair. One of those last minute things that she agreed to do to help distract herself from an upcoming lonely Christmas.  Her crafting is her passion and she’s not in it for the money – and that is what seemed to upset her ex!

She is welcomed with open arms by the owners and despite never having visited the Hall before she feels at home! She’s keen to learn more about the history and keeps catching glimpses of people dressed in vintage clothing which really adds to the historical atmosphere.

I love the parallel timelines contained in this series.  They work so well alongside each other, so in this book we get flashbacks to 1884 and the story of Charles and Millie.  Both besotted by each other but hesistant to take things further, until a snowy Christmas brings them closer together.

While Emmy is snowed in at the Hall she spends more time with Kate, who lives above the museum and her brother Tom is visiting for the holidays.  He’s been having very strange dreams recently about a woman and he’s a little shocked to now see her in real life! Maybe spending Christmas with his sister and her family won’t be so bad after all!  The world works in mysterious ways or so they say!

The blend of romance and history is a wonderful mix once more, and with a snowy setting it can’t get any better!  I loved being reunited with old characters from the series, but this can also easily be read as a standalone story, perfect to get you in the Christmas mood.  Loved every single second of it!!

#BookReview Watch For Me By Twilight by Kirsty Ferry #HappyPublicationDay @ChocLituk

About the book

The past is never really the past at Hartsford Hall …
Aidan Edwards has always been fascinated by the life of his great-great uncle Robert. A trip to Hartsford Hall and an encounter with Cassie Aldrich leads him closer to the truth about Robert Edwards, as he unravels the scandalous story of a bright young poet and a beautiful spirited aristocrat in the carefree twilight of the 1930s before the Second World War.

But can Aidan find out what happened to Robert after the war – or will he have to accept that certain parts of his uncle’s life will remain forever shrouded in mystery?

MY REVIEW

I love each return visit to Hartsford Hall, and the latest in the series is just as wonderful with a great mix of mystery, history and romance! The perfect combination!

This story follows Cassie as she steps in to help her sister in law with preparations for the annual Living History Weekend.  As Elodie is pregnant with twins her  health is her main concern, so Cassie is sure she can take on the bulk of arranging things at Hartsford Hall, but is soon concerned she may have bitten off more than she can chew!

Aiden is a keen motorbike nut, and while he’s out riding one day he finds himself at Hartsford and gets caught up in the history of the place which makes him think back to his great great uncle, Robert, and the unanswered questions he has about him.  When he spots a link to the Hall in some old keepsakes he is keen to find out more and soon finds himself in contact with Cassie who is just as eager to delve into the history that they know very little of about those who lived at the Hall in the past.

The story then flits between the current timeline, and back to the late 1930’s when those living at Hartsford are trying to enjoy their lifestyles but the threat of war is hanging over them all. For Lady Stella it could mean saying goodbye to Rob, the writer she has fallen in love with.

For me the books of Kirsty Ferry are like a giant hug! No matter what topic she is writing about, you feel completely wrapped up in the goings on and the characters all become friends and family to you, and this is what I loved about Twilight.  Cassie is such an energetic character – eager to please and not let anyone down, and her enthusiasm for getting the most out of the event is evident for all to see.  And in Aiden she finds someone just as interested in looking back to the past, and their willingness to keep digging for more clues to what happened was fantastic.  And the storyline of Lady Stella and Rob was just as captivating and really caught the essence of the time as well as capturing their emotions and feelings towards one another.

Loved it and highly recommend it – if you’ve not read any of the Hartsford series before you can read this as a standalone!      But you’ll want to read more if you pick this up!!
