MY REVIEW

A wonderful and magical story that had me swept about with the history and romance and left me just wanting more!  There was so much going on in this story and I found myself totally submerged in the lives of the characters – and in Cassie and Stefan you have 2 people who are polar opposites but just have that spark, that neither can explain!

Cassie runs a cleaning business and is one of life’s good guys. Always there to help out whoever needs it and a real delight to be around. So when she’s given the job of helping to look after a new inhabitant, Stefan,  at the local manor house, she expects to receive gratitude and thanks.  Stefan really just wants to be left alone so doesn’t take too kindly to being ‘cared’ for – he’s been injured abroad and isn’t up to socialising much so finds it easier to push people away.

Stefan is a wonderful character to explore – seemingly a loner, you know he’s got some history that has scarred him, not only physically, and you wonder if he’s ever going to let his guard down and let people in to help him get through the darker times he has.  In Cassie, he meets someone who is seemingly a people person! She loves to help and is an invaluable member of the local community.  She also has a wonderful bond with her grandfather and their ‘jokes’ are a real feature of daily life!

As Stefan explores the manor he uncovers some diaries of a soldier who was at the manor in 1917, and this was another intriguing twist on the story – I do love a historical theme in the stories I read, and it all makes more sense when Cassie starts reading letters her grandfather gives her and a new story evolves about about what happened in the past.

Add to the past storyline, there’s also a darker element in the present with a number of burglaries taking place which really puts a strain on the villagers as they can’t believe someone could take advantage of them in such a way.

I loved Cassie and Stefan and the way their particular storylines played out – they both had to deal with some harrowing situations but found support when needed, and especially with Cassie who had dreams of a different career and finding out that those she thought she could trust were not quite so honest towards her, you just wondered when she’d get her break.  It gives a good message throughout of being careful who you trust, with some startling things going on that really added shock value.

Loved it!

MY REVIEW

Swoon! A book that has every base covered – gorgeous setting, go-getting characters, history, mystery, romance and thriller vibes! What more could you want from a book?! I loved every page!!

Aurora is committed to her work and she is a much respected art historian, which means she travels all over delving into the past. She finds herself in Paris at the request of a top auction house and she wants to prove that she is worthy of the work they are trusting her with. Romance is the last thing on her mind!

She soon comes across the path of Cedric who is a journalist used to getting his own way and never taking no as an answer. When he sniffs out a story it is just coincidence that Aurora may be getting in his way! He wants to do a story on the work she does – she disagree but soon finds that having Cedric around might help her out when things start to take a sinister turn as she finds out more about the manuscript at the centre of her work.

I really love Aurora as a character – so devoted to her work and  not easily distracted but you do notice chinks in her armour when things begin to turn a little darker and the truth about her past comes to light and you totally understand what is pushing her to do well in her work.

And she is reluctant to take a chance on people considering she has been lied to and had her trust in others shattered so when Cedric shows up, you understand her reluctance to let him into her life – even if he does seem to appear when she needs him the most.

Aurora and Cedric are such wonderful main characters to follow – devoted to their jobs but also quite playful with their banter and I loved being in their company! There are twists and turns galore and the pace really builds up nicely towards the end as things came to a head!  A wonderfully modern fairy tale!!

MY REVIEW

It isn’t difficult to take this book to your heart from the first few pages of this fabulous romantic comedy! Rosalie Heart is the kind of character that is so easy to love and her Taxi firm ‘Love Taxis’ are a godsend to the community where she lives.  And what’s not to love about a bright pink taxi ferrying you from A to B?!

Those who aren’t from the community find the Taxis a little odd, and that is exactly what Marc Petersen fails to connect with as he finds himself in the area.    He is there to take over the run down Raventhorn Castle, much to the shock of those who live there – Rosalie being one of them.  It comes as a bolt out of the blue to her as it’s more than a home to her, it is her life and having grown up there she feels a deep bond to the place and knew nothing of the financial issues behind it.

Rosalie and Marc get off to a very bumpy start and that isn’t helped when she tells him of local ghostly legends – he is quick to dismiss them but soon finds himself seeing things which he can’t explain.  It doesn’t take long before he becomes seduced by the charm of the castle and the community, which surprises him as he’s from the cutthroat business world and doesn’t normally get attached to things.  With him, it’s all about the money!  He doesn’t even want to be there as he’s only tying up the loose ends of his late fathers’ dealings and still can’t understand how he ended up owning a Castle in the first place.

This book has a little bit of everything in it and that is what kept me so engrossed! There’s romance, history, a supernatural element, mystery – the perfect mix of genres!  The characters are so easy to relate to, especially Rosalie who has a heart of gold and is always putting the needs of others ahead of her own.  Her affection for the Castle is also really touching and how she’s determined to show off  to others the good that she sees and how vital her business is and how the Castle is more than just a historic setting – it’s her home.

A treat of  read! Highly recommended!
