#TopTenTuesday 10 Things That Make You Pick Up A Book #bookblogger

TOP TEN TUESDAY WAS CREATED BY THE BROKE AND THE BOOKISH IN JUNE OF 2010 AND WAS MOVED TO THAT ARTSY READER GIRL IN JANUARY OF 2018. IT WAS BORN OF A LOVE OF LISTS, A LOVE OF BOOKS, AND A DESIRE TO BRING BOOKISH FRIENDS TOGETHER.

The rules are very  simple:

  • Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
  • Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to THAT ARTSY READER GIRL in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
  • Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
  • Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.

THIS WEEK’S TOPIC IS THINGS THAT MAKE ME PICK UP A BOOK.

1.  COVER
I’m a total sucker for a pretty cover and have been known on many occasions to pick up a book based solely on what the cover looks like and having no clue as to what the book is about!

2.  FAVOURITE AUTHOR
If I like an Author then I’ll pick up anything they write!

3.  SUBJECT MATTER
If it’s a topic I love or am interested in and see a book about that subject, then I’m in!

4. OTHER REVIEWS
Reading other Book Blogs is EVIL(!) for finding out about new releases or old favourites that they’ve loved, or seeing a BookTuber rave about a title is another sure fire way of making me interested!

5.  TO COMPLETE A READING CHALLENGE
I do love a reading challenge and often finding titles that fit the prompts are a great way to widen your reading horizons and often make you pick up a book you’d never normally consider.

6.  AWARD WINNER
I’m often intrigued by some of the books that win awards, especially as they often aren’t the biggest sellers or ones you’d find other people reading, so part of me often wants to pick up a particular book and try and figure out why it has won… I am often none the wiser after reading said book either! 😉

7.  SET IN THE LOCAL AREA

Always gives me a thrill when I’m reading a book and recognise the place names!

8.  A BARGAIN BUY
Call me a cheapskate, but I do love finding a bargain so am often tempted by books I see on offer or part of a deal.

9.  IT’S PART OF A SERIES
No use starting a series if you don’t finish it – if you enjoy it of course! – so I always love to carry on reading a story set over 3 books or more!

10.  IF IT HAS A GARDENING LINK
As a keen gardener, if there’s a link to nature or the outdoors then I am more easily persuaded to pick that book up – especially if it has photos too!

💛💛💛💛💛

Is there anything in particular that makes you pick up a book up?

#TopTenTuesday – Books I loved with fewer than 2,000 ratings on GoodReads #bookblogger

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

It’s just a good excuse for us to combine our love of books and lists and share them with the topics chosen for each week! This week the topic is Books I LOVED with Fewer than 2,000 Ratings on Goodreads so a perfect one for me as I do love a quirky book that often isn’t read by lots of people!  So here’s my list after a good look through my GoodReads shelves!  I rated all these books with 5 stars and it’s actually shocked me to see how low some of the ratings figures are for some of these books! What is wrong with some people?! haha!!

The Lion Tamer Who Lost by Louise Beech

Baxter’s Requiem by Matthew Crow

Little by Edward Carey

Flames by Robbie Arnott

A Thousand Paper Birds by Tor Udall

The Visitors by Rebecca Mascull

Hiding From The Light by Barbara Erskine

Ghostbird by Carol Lovekin

#TopTenTuesday Backlist Books I Want to Read

A topic I think we all as readers can resonate with this week!  As always, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely ThatArtsyReaderGirl and is open to all of us who want to take part!

And the topic this week is TOP 10 BACKLIST BOOKS I WANT TO READ!  A topic that has brought me out in a cold sweat!! I’m sure I’m not alone in having a TBR pile the size of Everest, and  picking out books for this week was no problem at all, but has made me find books I’d forgotten all about it!! Why is there never enough time to read more books?!

So here’s my list and maybe it will help kick me up the bum again in getting to these books in the not too distant future!! Click on title for a link to the GoodReads page!
