The smell of Summer is in the air!! And now it is time to take part in one of my favourite bookish challenges!!! The lovely Cathy over at 746 Books started this a few years ago now, and thankfully has decided to run it again for 2018!
It’s a simple enough challenge! From the 1st June to 3rd September the challenge is to read!! The main aim is 20 books, but you can also sign up for 10 or 15 if you want to! And you can change your reading list along the way, or the number if needs be! We never know what challenges lie ahead over the summer months so this is the perfect challenge to take part in as nothing is set in stone!
It’s always fun to see how everyone is doing and Cathy also tweets progress using #20booksofsummer so I’ll be doing the same – if I remember! – and hope you do too if you take part!
Probably the hardest part for me is choosing the initial list of 20! The bookshelves of doom are always looking over me at this point, as well as the Kindle bursting at the seams with book choices thanks to my book acquiring habits!! So I have decided on using this opportunity to attack my NetGalley bookshelf which is way out of control!! Not my fault of course!! But now I have the perfect excuse to go through the backlog of books I’d been so excited to read when I first spotted them there!
So below is the preliminary list – there may be changes along the way! – so click on the book title for the link to the GoodReads page if you want to know more about each book!
Arlette’s Story by Angela Barton
Us Against You (Beartown #2) by Fredrik Backman
The Book of M by Peng Shepherd
Letters to Iris by Elizabeth Noble
The Lost Letters of William Woolf by Helen Cullen
The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes by Ruth Hogan
Girl with Dove by Sally Bayley
The Toymakers by Robert Dinsdale
The Moby-Dick Blues by Michael Strelow
The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden
Just For the Holidays by Sue Moorcraft
The Way of all Flesh by Ambrose Parry
The Poison Bed by E.C. Fremantle
The Colour of Bee Larkham’s Murder by Sarah J.Harris
The Cafe at Seashell Cove by Karen Clarke
My Mother the Liar by Ann Troup
Whistle in the Dark by Emma Healey
📚📚📚
And there we have it! A wide range of genres and hopefully lots to keep me entertained over the summer months!
Hope a few of you will be joining in the 20 books fun! Looking forward to seeing your lists and progress!!
HAPPY READING!
Oh great list! I pulled from my shelves and realize now that the new books coming out over the summer will be a distraction for sure! 😉 But my list of 20 has been languishing on a shelf for so long that I hope to make the concerted effort to read through my stack! 😉

Oooooh I might do this and try and get rid of my Netgalley backlog as well, gives a nice target without being too strict I like it 🙂

I think we all need all the help we can get in giving us a gentle nudge in attacking the NetGalley backlogs!! Hope you have fun with it all!

I’m still trying to decide if I’m going to join in this year as I did so badly last year. 😀

I will be joining in but usually post my lists in two halves to give me room to manoeuvre! Fortunately Cathy is fairly relaxed about the rules 😉

a sensible approach to have!! I do like the relaxed rules of this challenge lol!

This sounds like a great idea! I’m sure I can read 20 books in the Summer months! And with my slightly over enthusiastic approach to NetGalley I have so many books to read so might join you tackling some of my shelf. But also some paperbacks that have been gathering dust…will have to get thinking about which ones first!

I think we have all reached that stage of being spoilt for choice with too many books on our real and virtual bookshelves!! Hope you can narrow your choices down!!

What a great idea, love your book choices, I haven’t read any on your list but will look some of them up!

Sounds like a great idea to focus on your ARCs for this challenge. I’m still finalizing my TBR list, but I’ll definitely be including a few ARCs as well. Good luck, and happy 20 Books of Summer reading!

Thank you! It really is tough trying to decide on the final list but at least this will make me focus a little bit! Good luck with your list!! 🙂

Oooh, great list. I want to join this challenge. I have a free summer which is very unusual for me so I definitely think I can do this. I’m not one for picking TBRs though so that’ll be a difficult one.

Thank you! I hope you do get to join in with the challenge! The TBR list can be changed throughout which is why I like this challenge as I’m not very good at sticking to a list either!

Ahhh. I’m so conflicted over whether to read Us against You. I absolutely loved Beartown but I felt like it ended where it was supposed to end and there shouldn’t have been a sequel. So you know what I mean?
In other news I just finished reading Elefant and it was not what I was expecting but the elephant is very cute.

I’m totally with you on the quandry about Beartown!! I am intrigued to see how they do take it on, but equally worried in case it ruins all that went on in beartown! I guess we’ll just have to go for it and hope for the best! ooh even more intrigued about Elefant now too! Will let you know what i think!

It seems like a lot of us have gone down the path of variety when it comes to compiling a reading list for this challenge, myself included. Some great titles featured here – happy reading & good luck!

Thank you! It’s probably the best way to attack these kind of challenges and I wish you luck with your list too!! 🙂

I’m too much of a mood reader to narrow down my list so my post is a bit different. Good luck and I hope you’ll stop by:
